Printmaker Kauai is a professional custom printmaking studio located on Kaua‘I and has been operating since 1997.
Working with the latest digital equipment and utilizing cutting edge techniques, we work closely with artists to assure the finest reproductions of original art. Using only the highest quality archival materials, we personally guarantee the quality of every print we make. Every giclée (zhie-clay) print we make is guaranteed not to fade, when properly framed and displayed, for 25 years or it will be replaced free of charge.
A quality reproduction begins with a high resolution digital capture. In the case of watercolor, oil and acrylic paintings, we use a Fuji GFX100s mirrorless 102mp camera with a Fujinon GF63mmF2.8 R WR Lens. In addition, we use polarized HID lighting which is safe for delicate works of art while providing the extreme intensity needed for accurate color rendition. We’ve color profiled our system in order to provide extermely accurate color captures.
For smaller works of art, such as watercolor paintings, drawings, transparencies and photographs up to 12×17 inches, we use an Epson 11000 high resolution flatbed scanner. All digital captures are normally delivered color corrected to customers via web transfer or USB drive, at a resolution of 300 ppi at the size of the original art.
We currently print our giclées on our Epson P20000 printer. This 64” printer uses archival quality pigmented inks which are rated as fade resistant for up to 100 years under museum display conditions. Artists can confidently resell our prints without the fear of their work fading. We use Lexjet and Epson canvas. Both cotton-poly canvases are optical brightener free, water resistant and use a micro porus technology to lock the inks deep into the fabric of the canvas. Our canvas giclées are given three coats of a special giclée varnish to protect the surface and provide a base for artists who wish to remark their giclées.
Giclées on paper are printed using a matte black ink to provide the deepest colors on watercolor papers. Our house paper is Breathing Color Pura Velvet, and we stock some Hahnemuhle and Epson papers for fine art and photography.
We work with many of Kauai’s premier artists to create archival quality art reproductions on canvas and fine art papers.
